Professional painters provide estimates primarily based on the square footage of your home. Painting an average home between 500 and 1,500 square feet can cost between $1,000 and $3,000. However, factors such as number of stories and ease of access can also affect the overall price. Homeowners report that the average cost to paint a house nationally is $2,581 and most pay between $1,714 and $3,682.

As he has demonstrated through his involvement in the Fort Worth community, he enjoys working with people.  He serves on the worship team and as an elder at his church, has filled many roles in the school’s PTA, and was instrumental in helping to develop a Dads’ Club at the local elementary school which encourages fathers to become more involved in their child’s education.
One of the most popular painting applications in the industry, ColorSnap suggests colors that will work in at your job site. Simply take a picture of the room, entryway or whatever else, and the software will find up to eight colors that will create a beautiful space. In addition, the program will suggest coordinating colors and help you locate the nearest Sherwin-Williams store.
This feared question gets to the heart of who will be performing work in your home and whether your home and belongings will be safe. Sadly, there have been numerous documented cases around the country where employees of a hired contractor have burglarized, injured, or even killed the homeowner.  What’s worse, in most cases it was later found that the bad employee had a criminal background that was unknown to the employer.  In learning about who will be performing the work in your home, you should ask additional questions about their hiring policy and whether they conduct criminal background checks.
Jim also provided a color consultant.  This is something that we would never have thought of.  We had Shannon from Shannon Campbell Designs out to our home, and we went with colors that again, we would have never thought of.  Our home colors are beautiful, and we have NEVER seen out exact color combo!  Trust me, we spent literally months looking at homes, websites, etc to choose our colors.
David and his painting team were able to start working even sooner than they had told us originally and they finished much faster than we expected. This was so helpful to us since we were able to start moving things into our new home once they completed their work. We are so happy with the paint colors we chose; David made it easy for us by painting 3 different samples on the outside of the house to help us look at them as the light changed on the house for different times of day. We loved that he offered this to us since we were having trouble picking between 3 different shades of green.

Some proposals simply say to paint the walls and ceiling and never specify the number of coats to be applied. If the colors are similar enough, it's possible to get away with one coat of paint and not discount your pricing. No matter how hard you try, tiny, pin-sized air holes will pop exposing the original walls. This may not bother you if you can't notice it, but principally speaking you should have paid your painter less for the work.
If the point of hiring a well established, experienced, reputable painting contractor is to secure the professionalism and trust suggested to be inherent with that choice, then I would EXPECT that professionalism and experience to include the ability to make the proper and correct calculations for labor and materials for a fixed price quote, and there should be NO reason for the contractor to put the cost burden of their miscalculation on the consumer.

The materials of the home’s facade should be considered before painting your home. When painting flat surfaces like siding or wood, you can opt for standard outdoor paint. When painting a textured surface like stucco or brick, “elastomeric” paint is a much better choice. This type of paint can stretch more than normal paint, which allows it to bridge over small gaps and crevices, painting smoothly over texture. House Painting Denver CO

I totally agree with this as well. I think every time I have read Angie's List reports, they are inaccurate and not researched enough. I had COMPLETE faith in Angie but lately I am hesitate on reports. I would check your local hardware store or even your neighbors to get a recommendation for painters. If you liked what you saw, you can be stress free with your results. I live in Texas and I have borrowed my hardware store opinion bc that seems to be the place most of the contractors or painters come to buy stuff for the jobs. If your neighbors painters, contractors, electricians and plumbers have shown good results, stress free you. I have been stress free with results, glad I asked for other opinions.Don't forget, the Hardware Store knows if that person is trustworthy and honest, their accounts would be shut down.
Stacee, I agree with you completely, from adding water to latex paint to taking whites from job to job. This article makes all painters look like scam artists. You get what you pay for people! There is no denying that there are scammers out there but in my experience, most painters are under paid any ways so if you want a good paint job, you are going to pay for it. If you just want a new color on your walls real quick, and that is what you pay for then that's what you pay for people. Most painters get the crap end of the stick and are left with making an entire house look good when it took a lot more than a painter to build the house in the first place. Good painters do not get enough credit. They are not all scammers who are cutting corners!

I got the referral for Harvey's from the Home Depot on Howe Ave. Out of about 4 painters on Home Depot's list I was most impressed over the phone with Harvey's. His pamphlet is very professional and so is the exterior painting on our house. It took 2 1/2 days to transform our raggy, peeling, 19 yr. old former paint job into beautiful. We added in paint removal on the front porch, which the employees worked SO hard to get it all off. Alas, the concrete underneath was not good, so had to have Harvey's paint it. Israel made sure that a certain caulking was used to fill/hide 2 long cracks on the porch. OMGoodness, u can't even see where the cracks were! I LOVE that porch now! ALL the neighbors are stunned at how good it looks, and we have an exterior to enjoy until we sell in 4 -5 years. Thank YOU Harvey's!
The crew at Harvey's House Painting was great!!! They were very friendly, worked super hard (in the 103 degree weather) and it looks great. I pointed out one area that I thought the paint looked a little weird and they quickly grabbed the paint to finish it- no questions asked. The price seemed fair for a 4-person crew and getting the job done so quickly! I highly recommend them.

This article is outdated. Deep based colors were an increase in price back in the 90's. Most stores have a standard price for all colors now. The problems the author are citing are outdated and rarely happen. This is the 2nd time I've seen this article being emailed out, it's irresponsible of angies list to keep sending out this poorly written and inaccurate article.
I want to relate our experiences with "House Painting. Inc".  Mr. James Lee responded to our initial telephone call within a day and came out to inspect our house the following day.  He provided us with a  very thorough inspection of our house and determined what was needed to be done. In addition, he recommended ways to improve drainage around the house and care of brick walkways. Mr. Lee provided us with a complete description of the job, evidence of licensing and insurance coverages and letters of recommendations from past customers. In the end, he provided us a very honest and straightforward quote. Home Painters Denver CO

You can save a bundle by doing the labor yourself. The biggest DIY expense is paint. Other expenses include buying or renting supplies and equipment, like caulk, primer, brushes, rollers, tarps and ladders or scaffolding. Freeman advises applying paint with brushes, not a sprayer. “If you overspray all the window frames and overspray your shingles and your sidewalks and the brick on the front of the house, you do damage that is not easily fixed,” he says.

It's always a pleasure to find that you've hired the right professional for a particular job, and that was certainly the case with Patrick Miller Painting. I called for an estimate in January, but Pat told me on the phone before he even came over that it would be about three months before he could get to the job. That's a very good sign when someone is that busy! I actually had some other projects that needed to be finished prior to painting, so the wait was perfect for my schedule The price very much within our budget, and I didn't even bother getting other estimates as I could tell he was a pro.

Before we start work, we will provide you with a color consultation with Sue Shores, one of the best designers in Kansas City. Her advice will help you decide on the colors that best suit your home and its style. Once you make a final color selection, we will begin the preparatory work for your exterior project. This preparation includes cleaning the exterior of your home, scraping loose paint and identifying wood rot you may wish to replace. By inspecting for damage to your house, we ensure your peace of mind. House Painting Denver CO

We got our estimate in a timely manner. The price was very reasonable. Rain put our job off a few weeks but you can't change mother nature. When the team arrived the temperatures were in the 90's. The team had to do a couple 1/2 days due to that but we assured them we were in no hurry. The final results were fabulous!! Our house is older but now looks so fresh and neat. I will recommend Color World to anyone who asks Thank you so much.

Prep. For new work the painter accepts the finish done by the drywall or plaster and once he accepts the work and starts painting he owns any wall repairs. Existing work is a different thing. I take a high intensity light and circle the kinds of defects with chalk so we are all in agreement before they start. Sometimes this results in a higher price and we have to compromise on how much to do...
A thorough scrubbing is a must before painting any exterior surface. It removes the dirt and broken-down paint residues that keep fresh coats from adhering and gets rid of mildew that grows on paint in all but the most arid climates. Most contractors clean with pressure washers, but in the hands of someone unfamiliar with the equipment, these can gouge wood, shatter glass, and drive water behind siding and trim. Using a hose, a pump sprayer, and a scrub brush is slower but safer, and just as effective.

Second: all the tricks of the trade in regard to "cheating" customers is for hustlers and cheaters and NOT established businesses. At the end of the project the job should come out looking professionally painted as specified in the contract. A selected color that takes multiple coats that was not calculated by the contractor should cost more money. It's not the fault of the painter.

We had an absolutely amazing experience getting the interior of our house painted by Color World. Tom was quick to give us his time for a quote and go over all questions we had. Shell was informative and very accurate on helping us choose our colors. They couldn’t have sent a better crew of painters led by Shaun Childers. They have completely changed our lives and made our home something we are proud to show off and come home to. Highly Recommend! Flawless from start to finish! 😁
I met these guys at the 2015 Home & Landscaping show, got a flyer called Rich for an est  complete exterior painting of my rental. Everything from Start to Finish went Perfect!! Including the Pricing I felt this guy was More Than Fair and did way more than I thought. These guys are very detail and  installed the lighting fixtures I had bought all to enhance overall  Curb appeal. Was very Pleased with the outcome and the house showed Awesome on the market less than 7 days with multiple offers!! Positive their work was an influence. I Totally Recommend Harvey's House Painting confident you will not be disappointed. Thanks Rich & Your Crew

"Chris and his crew did a great job. The painting of the exterior of our home took a bit longer than promised but the quality was top-notch. Chris was easy to get ahold of whenever we had questions or concerns - which were always promptly addressed. We will be recommending 5 Star Painting of SW Ft Worth to all of our friends and family and will definitely use them again should the need arise."

Painters with bad reputations can avoid the problem of reference checks by giving their customers lists of relatives and friends.  The people will say great things, and the customer won’t be the wiser.  The best way to avoid this smoke and mirror trick is to ask specific questions about the project. If the reference seems hesitant, doesn’t know the details, or gives sketchy responses, be skeptical.
I'm an architect and my firm routinely specifies interior finishes for projects so I thought I'd contribute a professional's perspective on the issue of how many coats of paint are deemed "acceptable". The fact of the matter is the average consumer usually isn't a paint expert and can't be expected to know about all the factors that impact coverage. That knowledge is considered "means and methods" and in a court of law, the responsibility lies with the painter or general contractor, not the consumer. What the consumer should be concerned about is the final result-does it look good and is it what you expected? The simplest way to communicate this to your painter is to stipule in your written agreement that the number of coats will be "as required to cover". That way all the guess work about what kind of primer, how many coats, how color affects the scope of work, etc., is removed from the consumer's responsibility and resides where it belongs-with the professional. In the contract that's why retention is always a good idea-typically 10% is withheld from payment until the job is completed to the satisfaction of the customer. Of course in return you as the customer have to be reasonable about what constitutes a completed job. Just my $.02.
During the walk through, I enjoyed that Rich was professional and didn't argue or try to argue about work that was outside the scope of the contract.  He explained that an area in the drywall above the doorframe would need to be replaced due to a bad crack in the sheetrock.  The lines on the trim are straight, the walls that are dark have clean lines along the crown molding and baseboard the job looks great, the wall that needed to be floated looks awesome and I couldn't be happier.

It is one of our core values to ensure our clients’ dreams for their home comes true. So often, clients come to us for a new coat of paint or a repair but what they really want is so much more. We understand your house is your home and that when it is time for change or for a repair, you want a crew that will take care to make your home look its best.

Tom (the owner) responded quickly with an estimate and was able to add additional painting that we requested (e.g., paint window trim). He was also able to provide an accurate timeframe regarding when the work would be completed. Schell met with us to help pick out our paint choices. She provide wonderful insight into the colors that might work. She didn't try to overly influence our choices but provided options and gave us her expert opinion when we asked. She also took into account our needs when scheduling the work. We needed to have repair work done on rotting wood on the window sills on our porch and a border removed from a bedroom. Jeff and Tracey provided expert carpentry work to fix things prior to painting. They were friendly and came to the job prepared with the tools and wood they needed. They got right to work and finished the job quicker than I would have expected. This isn't their first rodeo, as the saying goes. The painters (Shawn and company) came prepared for our job, worked hard, and explained any difficulties and suggested fixes (another coat of paint) encountered in our job. Shawn and his painters didn't waste any time not working - they each had their roles and attacked the job with energy. Shawn and crew were friendly and made sure they kept in touch with us daily to let us know when they planned to arrive and leave our job, accommodate our schedule, and let us know about the progress they were making. There was not a lot of standing around but much hard work, even in ninety plus degree weather. They also made sure that our three house cats didn't escape:) . House Painting Denver CO
